Representing only workers’ compensation and personal injury claimants, Mr. Murphy has provided outstanding legal representation to thousands of injured clients throughout Montana. With over 34 years of professional legal experience, he is passionate about protecting your rights. He has successfully litigated numerous workers’ compensation and personal injury claims to verdict.
Tom graduated from the University of Montana Law School in 1985. He founded Murphy Law Firm in 1998, after 12 years of litigation practice with a large law firm in Great Falls. He frequently practices before both state and federal courts, including the United States Supreme Court.
Assisting my fellow Montanans is what I’ve dedicated my entire career to, and I’m deeply passionate about protecting the legal rights of injured workers and personal injury plaintiffs.
Tom is the Co-Founder and Co-Chairman of the Workers’ Compensation section of the Montana Trial Lawyers Association (MTLA). He also serves on the MTLA Board of Directors. On the national level, Tom serves on the Board of the Directors for the Workers’ Injury Law & Advocacy Group (WILG). WILG is comprised of nearly 1,000 workers’ compensation attorneys fighting for the rights of injured workers across the United States.
Awards
In 2005, Tom Murphy was awarded the MTLA’s “Appellate Advocacy Award” for two precedent-setting cases challenging the unconstitutional denial of equal protection for elderly workers and occupational disease claimants. He has also been recognized by WILG as one of the nation’s top 100 injured workers’ attorneys. In addition, he was inducted as a Fellow in the College of Workers’ Compensation Lawyers, the first lawyer in Montana to be invited.
Personal
Tom has been married to his lovely wife, Leslie, for the better part of 40 years, and he is the proud father of three incredible sons — Mike, Matt and Tommy. When not at the office, Tom enjoys travelling and spending time with Leslie at their cabin in the Anaconda-Pintler Wilderness. Leslie’s grandfather built the cabin 80 years ago, and the Pintlers offer Tom and Leslie many opportunities to go hiking, camping, fishing, and cross-country skiing in the beautiful Montana wilderness.

President’s Award
On October 28, 2019, Thomas J. Murphy was one of six attorneys in the United States to receive the prestigious President’s Award from the Workers’ Injury Law & Advocacy Group in Santa Barbara, California.
Mr. Murphy has represented injured workers in Montana for thirty-four years. He is Co-Founder of the Montana Trial Lawyers Association Workers’ Compensation Section, and he now serves on the Board of Directors of the Montana Trial Lawyers Association. Mr. Murphy has lectured at numerous workers’ compensation seminars teaching other lawyers throughout the United States. Mr. Murphy is a nationally recognized expert in workers’ compensation law. He is the recipient of the 2005 Montana Trial Lawyers Association Appellate Advocacy Award for two precedent setting cases challenging the unconstitutional denial of equal protection for elderly workers, and the unconstitutional denial of equal protection for occupationally diseased claimants. The WILG President’s Award recognized Mr. Murphy’s important career, which has been dedicated to representing the rights of Montana Injured Workers.
